SEOUL, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- Kia Motors, South Korea's second-biggest automaker, posted earnings growth last year thanks to strong demand for new models and robust sports utility vehicle (SUV) sales, a regulatory filing showed on Thursday.

Operating profit rose 4.6 percent to 2.46 trillion won (2.13 billion U.S. dollars) in 2016 on revenue of 52.71 trillion won, up 6.4 percent from a year earlier, compared with its parent company Hyundai Motor's operating profit that tumbled 18.3 percent.

Kia's car sales in the domestic market rose 1.2 percent last year thanks to demand for new models such as K7.

The No.2 carmaker's exports plunged 15.1 percent on labor strikes, but sales in cars produced in overseas plants increased 10.7 percent.

CHENGDU, China, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) General Assembly on Thursday approved the nomination of Zurab Pololikashvili, Georgian ambassador to Spain, as its next secretary-general.

Pololikashvili's appointment came after the 22nd session of UNWTO General Assembly entered its second day in Chengdu, capital of Southwest China's Sichuan Province.

Pololikashvili was nominated as the chief of the 156-member organization in May during the 105th meeting of the UNWTO Executive Council in Madrid, to succeed Taleb Rifai, who completes two maximum and successful four-year terms.

Rifai stressed during Thursday's session that the selection was made "under clean and transparent circumstances."

During that session, Zimbabwe's push for a vote on UNWTO's next chief in support of Gambia's proposal led to an open debate.

Most delegates expressed their supports for a vote to maintain unity.

"I was in favor of a vote... (but) It's better to show unified position and go back to consensus," which is "as legal as a vote," Rifai told a press conference after the session.

For his part, Pololikashvili pledged a "productive" cooperation with Africa, vowing to "continue the way which was started by Rifai" in his future work.

He highlighted one of the UNWTO priorities, that is to conduct tourism cooperation on special project concerning the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative.

Rifai described the UNWTO cooperation with China as a "strategic relationship" and the "best relationship we can ever have," saying the two sides are "good partners."

Meanwhile, he expressed support for the China-initiated World Tourism Alliance that was established on Tuesday, as he believes it would be a support to UNWTO.

More than 1,000 delegates, including tourism ministers, from more than 130 countries attended the four-day biennial UNWTO meeting this year, with focuses on sustainable development and tourism.

Soothing and relaxing, is how I'd describe it. You may not be stuck by the rhythm the first time you hear one of his songs, but the more you listen to them, the more you find yourself lost in a calm countryside or on a sunny beach.

This is the magic of Jason Mraz's music.

And when it comes to live concerts there are always a few extra surprises, so now is a good time to get yourself prepared for a music feast as the US singer songwriter is coming to China again.

On March 30 and April 1, as part of his new tour to promote his latest album YES!, Mraz, together with Raining Jane, will stop at Chengdu and Shanghai.

Old friends, new album

Released last summer, YES!, the singer-songwriter's fifth studio album, sees the first formal cooperation between Mraz and all-girl folk band Raining Jane.

Long-time friends with the members of Raining Jane, Mraz explained that their friendship started about eight years ago, when the girls performed at a festival. Though the decision to make an album together came only a year ago, the five had collaborated together on projects for years, and so most of songs in the new album were actually written before the idea of making an album had even come up.

"It was really organic," the Atlantic musician described the album in an e-mail interview with the Global Times, adding that touring with Raining Jane had long been a dream of his. "They bring such gratitude and freshness to the stage."

Featuring hit song "Love Someone," YES! has been regarded as one of the most anticipated new albums of last summer. Yet, seeing these songs performed live is not the only benefit of heading to his concert, as Mraz has promised some new interp.
